ENVIRONMENT

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe God created this beautiful world that we live in and gave us the incredible responsibility, as humans, to play a role in looking after it for him. As a Church, we know that our day-to-day life both as individuals and as an organisation has an impact on the environment in ways which are both positive and negative. We wish to minimise our negative impact wherever and whenever practicable in both our day to day lives as a Church and our cooperate operations.

WHAT WE DO

We do a number of things at Redland to try reduce our negative environmental impact and increase our positive contribution. We have listed a couple of these things below to both illustrate and inspire. Why not think about whether you could adopt similar practices in your life?

ENERGY SUPPLIER

We use a green energy supplier that generates all their electricity from renewable sources.

LIGHTBULBS

Where we can, we use low energy or LED lightbulbs. Not only are they better for the planet they cost less to run.

TRANSPORT

We’ve installed cycle racks at our main building. Why not walk or cycle next time you join us?

CLEANING

The cleaning products we use can have an environmental impact as they filter out into our oceans and rivers. We are working towards using environmentally friendly cleaning products wherever possible. Check out brands like ‘Ecover’ and ‘Method’ next time you do your weekly shop.

CARBON OFFSETING

Even if we reduce our impact, we all produce some CO2. Carbon offsetting is about calculating your impact and investing in ways to practically compensate for every tonne used. We do this by giving to Climate Stewards, offsetting for our energy use which we calculate.

REDUCE OR RECYCLE

We have gone largely paper free at our Sunday services and use ceramic rather than disposable mugs for coffee. We need to use consumable products from time to time but try to use recyclable products. We have clearly marked recycling bins all over our building to easily enable this.

ADVOCATE FOR CHANGE

We’ve recently written to our MP to advocate for change. Simple acts like this have an impact. Feel free to use our letter as a template for yourself. Why not encourage a friend by sharing how you have taken steps to better care for God’s world?

WIPE WELL!

We love using ‘Who Gives a Crap’ loo roll. It’s 100% recycled and a portion of the profits got to investing in building toilets in developing countries.
