On the evening of Tuesday 3rd April, our group of 6 young people and 3 leaders descended to Woodlands church along with 600 young people ready to kick-start a exciting week of Hope 18. For those who don’t know Hope 18 was a weeklong collaborative event between local community outreach project “The Noise” and the team from “Soul Survivor” who have also produced other events such as Soul Survivor festivals and Naturally Supernatural. The launch evening was full of energetic worship and spiritual teaching which filled us full off enthusiasm and passion for the days ahead.
We began our week by serving at Oasis Academy Long Cross by digging up their reception garden ready for new seed. Although the work was tiring we had lots of fun getting to bond as a team and discovering all the weird and random objects that had been planted by the 4-year olds. The next day we made our way down to Whitchurch to do litter picking around the neighbourhood and to plant a tree on a small plot of land next to ASDA. We really enjoyed this as it gave us an opportunity to clean up public areas which would often go unattended and helped the overall appearance of the area. We spent Thursday in St George's park passing out flyers about the upcoming family days that were being hosted around Bristol. Later in the day we walked up to the Orchard Café and helped host a youth café there. There was face painting, tuck shop and a open mic where Josh, Lizzie and Fran stole the spotlight.
I really enjoyed getting to know all the local people from the area who had come along to the event and listening to the wonderful local artists who came along and performed. Saturday was the grand finale of the week as there were 18 family fun days being hosted across all areas of Bristol. We were allocated to the family day in Easton where we went and helped serve tea and coffee’s. supervised the bouncy castle and of course face paint for the kids of the area. I loved chatting to all the family’s and seeing the community spirit in the area whilst showing Gods love for them. Overall the team had a wonderful week getting to know each other and helping different communities across Bristol. The Noise’s mission is to “Show God’s love in practical ways” and after a week full of community work and giving back to those across Bristol I was very clear that God has some wonderful plans for Bristol.
Redland Education Centre is looking for a talented and well organised Christian teacher to assist with its work in schools for 1 or 2 days a week. Full details and job description and application form can be found here.
We are really excited to announce that on Sunday 25th February, Lindsay Brown will be coming to speak to us! Lindsay is the former General Secretary of IFES (International Fellowship of Evangelical Students) and has a great reputation as both a speaker and evangelist. Lindsay will join us for our morning service where he will be preaching on 'what kind of people does God use?'
As well as this, on the Saturday evening (24th Feb) Lindsay will joining us for dinner and sharing on the subject of 'what on earth is God doing?' with a chance for questions and discussion. If you would like to join us for a simple two-course meal at 6.30pm followed by Linsday's talk, do contact the church office (email@example.com). We look forward to what promises to be an excellent weekend hearing from Lindsay!
This year at Redland we are really excited about a number of new things that we would love to share with you!
Since the new halls were opened, we have enjoyed the easier access, the scope for more creative and flexible worship and the opportunities for creating community that they have offered at our monthly family service – and now we are enjoying these facilities on all the other Sundays, having moved our 10am service across to the halls as well.
Our re-launched 10am service includes refreshments served from 9:30am, and we then the whole church family joins together for the start of our service. The children leave for their different activities after the first 15 minutes – we have groups for anyone aged 3-13 in the morning, as well as a crèche area at the back of the building for little ones and their parents. The service continues with a time of worship, prayer and teaching which focuses on how our faith makes a difference on our lives. Once a month we share communion, and the children re-join us for this too. After the service we offer prayer ministry as well as more refreshments and a chance to spend time together.
Another change at Redland this year is in our monthly bulletin. We have designed a new vibrant and bright bulletin for the month ahead, with all the key dates and big events in it. We hope that it gives newcomers a feel for what we are about as a church, as well as providing church members with all the information they need for the coming weeks.
Thirdly, if you are reading this, you have found yourself on our new website! We are really pleased by the new layout and design which we hope you will be able to navigate easily, find out more about the life of the church, our vision for the future and enquire about hall bookings. Our new website means that we can keep you even more up-to-date with what’s going on, so keep visiting us for all the latest news from Redland!
